I was just on discountdance.com writing some product reviews, and I was asked if I would like to answer some other users' questions. I read the questions, and I realized that I knew the answers to nearly all of them. After providing as many answers as I could, I thought, why isn't there a place online with all this information about dancewear? I want to create an informational blog with tidbits about dancewear (brands, quality, sizing, etc.) as well as things like dancewear organization, stage makeup, and more!
So why trust me with this information? I am a college student and a dancer. I have had some formal training in sizing and fitting dancewear. Because I have been through this training, I know what sizes to recommend in most dancewear brands. Sometimes the sizing that actually works is quire radically different from what is recommended by the manufacturer. Sometimes there is a reason for this (for example, Grishko pointe shoes size recommendations do not take toe pads into account), and sometimes there is not.
I dance with a local ballet company, and I take ballet class 5 to 6 days a week. I also take one modern class and one ballroom class per week. In my youth, I also took tap, jazz, Irish dance, and gymnastics. Over the years, I have purchased and tried out numerous dancewear products and brands. I am always eager to try out a new product and see how it works for me.
There are some limitations to what kind of information I can provide. I am a girl, so I can't attest to men's products. I'm tiny (5'3", 95lbs, 23" waist, ladies' size 5 shoe), so I can't attest to products with a taller/larger target audience. I currently do ballet, modern, and ballroom dance only. While I have done other styles in the past and I know about some products that I do not use, my best advice will be about things I use regularly and know well.
I hope that the information I provide will be helpful. Please leave comments with any questions you have. I will answer them all to the best of my ability.
